Убеждение, что острый перец вызывает язвенную болезнь, является распространенным мифом. Большинство язвенных болезней происходят от бактериальных инфекций, по словам доктора Dr. George F. Дело в том, что перец прекрасно уничтожает вредоносные и гнилостные микроорганизмы, в том числе и пресловутую бактерию helicobacter pylori – виновницу гастрита и язвы желудка. Лабораторные исследования проведенные в универсетете Harran University School of Medicine в Турции обнаружили, что капсаицин продемонстрировал активные антибактериальные свойства в отношении штаммов Helicobacter Pylori, которые выработали сопротивляемость к обычным антибиотикам. Результаты этого исследования были опубликованы в 2005 году в журнале «Annals of Microbiology"
Недавно австралийские исследователи из Сиднея опубликовали исследования в которых указывается, что сapsaicin, помимо всего прочего, увеличивает активность коры надпочечников и вследствие этого обладает действием сходным с естественным кортизоном. Этот препарат способствует также уменьшению физической боли и избавляет от психологического стресса.
